Music / Worship
You don’t need to be a professional musician to join one or several of our groups! We need volunteers of all ages and skill levels, and child care is provided upon request. Let our Minister of Music and Other Arts know if you’re interested. Email Christine Salazar at firstname.lastname@example.org
Chancel Choir (youth-adult)
This choir leads in worship at the 11:00 service, bringing a variety of anthems ranging from traditional to contemporary, from spiritual to high-church.
Rehearsals: Wednesdays in the Sanctuary, 7:00-9:00 pm. Follows the school year.
Covenant Choir (youth-adult)
This choir leads worship at the 8:30 am Sunday service. We rehearse right before service on Sunday mornings and focus on enjoyable, fun, and easy-to-prepare songs, so this is a great choir to be a part of if your weeknights are busy.
Rehearsals: Sundays in the choir room, 7:30-8:30 am. Follows the school year.
Cantata Choir (youth-adult)
Members of our Chancel, Covenant, and Youth Choirs, as well as guests and seasonal members, join together to prepare an immense cantata two times a year, on Palm Sunday, and early in the Christmas season. We begin rehearsals about three months in advance.
Rehearsals: Wednesdays in the Sanctuary, 7:30-8:30 pm, and a few Saturdays.
King’s Ringers & Youth Ringers:
Our mixed-age, non-auditioned handbell group provides music at regular intervals on Sunday mornings, as well as at special community events. We focus on reading music (or learning to read) and working as a team to create beautiful sounds with KUMC’s handbells. King’s Ringers meet August-Easter.
Director: Christine Salazar
Rehearsals: Mondays in the Sanctuary, 6:30-7:30 pm
This auditioned group leads worship at the 9:45 Contemporary Service every Sunday.
Rehearsals: Tuesdays in the Sanctuary, 7:00-9:00 pm, year-round.
Youth Choir (6th-12th grade)
A non-auditioned choir who prepares complex music to present in services, special events, and in various opportunities in the community. We place a lot of emphasis on music-reading, harmonization, and singing as an expressive and cohesive ensemble.
Rehearsals: Sundays in the Choir Room, 3:30-4:30. Follows the school year.
Youth Band: (6th grade-college)
This auditioned group leads in worship for special youth events throughout the year. This band is a contemporary-style band with instrumentation such as guitar, bass guitar, drums, piano, keyboards, and vocals.
Rehearsals: Mondays in the Sanctuary, 7:30-9:00 pm, year-round.
Angel Choir (Ages 2-3, as of Sept 1st)
The first choral experience offered at Kennesaw United Methodist Church. This choir fosters a love for music through singing, play, and movement. Children enjoy singing sacred songs and folk songs, exploring body percussion, and pitch-matching.
Director: Becky Matthews
Rehearsals: Sundays in room 123, 4:30-4:55 pm. Follows the school year.
Cherub Choir (Ages 4-K, as of Sept 1st)
After graduation from Angel Choir, children are invited to continue their experience in music in this fun young choir!
Director: Becky Matthews
Rehearsals: Sundays in room 123, 5:00-5:25 pm. Follows the school year.
Children’s Choir (1st-5th Grade)
The Children’s Choir is the next step up the ladder as children are introduced to printed music for the first time. The choir focuses on note-reading and expressive music making through hymns, folk songs, and contemporary Christian songs. This older choir also presents special music in worship on a regular basis. Major presentations include the annual musicals.
Director: April O’Keefe and Christine Salazar
Rehearsals: Sundays in the choir room, 4:30-5:30 pm. Follows the school year.
We always need servants (youth-adult) to step alongside our tech ministry to help our many music groups and ensembles be seen and heard! Maybe you don’t excel in music reading, but can hear when something is too loud? You are a perfect fit for a sound person! Do you enjoy working with computers and have an eye for what “looks good?” You are a perfect fit for a visual tech!
Working with the soundboard in either the Sanctuary, or CAC and outside (special events) to help groups sound amazing. We will train you in everything, from connecting cables, microphones, and instruments, to running the sound board and eliminating the dreaded “feedback” hum.
Working on the church computers during services to cue slides and songs at the appropriate time. We will train you in everything, from pushing the “next” button, to creating beautiful and stunning slides to be used in the context of worship and special events.
What about lights? We’d love to get this ministry going in the church to enhance our worship atmosphere, but we need your help! Let us know if you’d like to offer any expertise in this area and grow our tech team!
