Chartered Groups of Kennesaw UMC

Troop 510 has a long history, We have been around since the late 60’s in the Kennesaw area .

Here at Troop 510 we believe in the three aims of Scouting:

1. Building Character

2. Fostering Good Citizenship

3. Personal Development; Mentally, Morally and Physically.

In Boy Scouts young men learn the skills to prepare themselves for the life ahead of them. And the best part is, they gain these skills while having fun!

Boy Scouts is a year-round program for boys 11 to 18, and unlike Cub Scouts, it is a boy-run program where the Troop members elect their officers, plan and run the meetings with the adult leadership helping in an advisory role. This gives our scouts the opportunities they need to develop self-confidence, responsibility and leadership.

We encourage our boys in their advancement through the scouting ranks, working regularly on scouting skills and merit badges in our weekly troop meetings, campouts and summer camp. Troop 510’s first Eagle Scout was in June of 1973, and there have been a total of 41 Eagle Scouts in the history of Troop 510 with 35 scouts reaching the rank of Eagle since 2000!

Part of Scouting is outing, and in Troop 510 we like to enjoy a variety of outdoor experiences as we participate in a weekend outing each month. We have been backpacking on the Appalachian Trail, canoeing the Okefenokee swamp, snow skiing in NC, whitewater rafting in Tennessee, and even swimming with Manatees in Crystal River, FL, along with many other such adventures. We also participate in several other activities, such as Adopt-A-Mile and other various service projects throughout the year such as local parades and the Memorial Day flag placement.

We strongly encourage parental involvement in the Troop, and welcome parents on campouts, but adults stay in their own “Rocking Chair” patrol and the boys operate separate from adults as their own patrols.
